Gatecrasher (2010) is the third part of a film trilogy which Erik Schmidt shot in various locations in his homeland, Westphalia. Scenes of an aristocratic dance with erotic allusions bandied back and forth between the guests are interlaced with picturesque shots depicting the interiors of a castle. The artist, dressed in a white suit, appears as a guest at this elegant soirée, yet remains in the watchful role of an outsider.

In his film Erik Schmidt describes a typos of the artist oscillating between estrangement from and convergence with aristocratic society. In the process he reflects, with ironic distance, on his self-image as a contemporary artist.

Gatecrasher was filmed in and around Rheda Castle.
